Here are some fun facts about how we burn energy through the day (TDEE: total daily energy expenditure):
– 70% of your total daily burn: Resting metabolic rate (you just existing) — hot tip: the more muscle you have the more you burn without doing anything, another reason to focus on muscle preservation as we age 💪
– 10% of your total daily burn: the thermic effect of food, or how much energy it takes to digest what you eat — hot tip: protein takes more energy just to break down 🙌
– 5% of your total daily burn: what you burn working out. It’s important, but it doesn’t move your overall daily burn as much as the others, and definitely not as much as…
– 15% of your total daily burn: everything you burn moving around all day — getting out of bed, walking around your kitchen, walking around the grocery store, fidgeting in your chair.
Do you get plenty of movement throughout the day outside of your workout (like walking)? The hot tip of the day is that WALKING may be an unexplored potential in your routine to help move the needle even faster!
So many of us start to gain body fat starting in our 40’s, and sometimes even earlier. And in my podcast I’m going to give you some keys to why this happens and what you can do about it!
I’ll explain how walking and moving around more throughout the day supports your fat loss goals, supports muscle and bone density and gives you so many other health benefits at the same time.
And where that fits in with our cardio, cortisol levels and changing hormones when we get into our perimenopause and beyond.
Plus, I’m taking a deeper dive into how our resting metabolic rate is influenced by our body composition (muscle to fat ratio), how we burn energy and lose body fat, the strategies around muscle preservation, and why this all matters as we age.
