Are ultra-processed foods really making us eat more? And if so, is it the additives, chemicals and preservatives, or something else entirely?

In Part 2 of my ultra-processed foods deep dive, I’m unpacking the fascinating science behind food texture, eating speed, energy density and the food matrix, including research showing how these factors can influence how much we eat AND how many calories our bodies actually absorb.

We’ll also explore the role of fibre, digestion and the gut microbiome, and why two foods with similar nutritional profiles can behave very differently in our bodies.

Because the REAL problem with ultra-processed foods may have less to do with scary ingredients and more to do with how food is structured, eaten and digested.

Missed Part 1? Watch that first! And check out my book, The Hunger Crushing Combo Method, for more practical ways to build balanced, satisfying meals.

  1. Yes, addition. I started this week to eat lunch with a veggie added I still eat my sandwich, but also a little beetroot salad, some cherry tomatoes or something else combined with a bit of olive oil. Also keeps me full for longer.

  2. Ultra processed foods often have fewer nutrients and some are nutrient void such as full sugar sodas and packaged cookies. Yes, they can certainly be consumed in moderation but you seem to be encouraging people to consume more ultra processed foods. In a country where over 70% of the population are obese, your message seems irresponsible. It comes across as if you are saying deep fried potato chips are just as healthy as a fresh carrot. Let's be real here.
